Two Arrests Following Weekend Cottage B&E's...

Chatham-Kent OPP officers made two quick arrests following a Lakeshore Road break-and-enter spree this past weekend. And an alert cottager may have been instrumental in solving the crime.

Sometime overnight Saturday February 27th a closed-up cottage and a locked guest house were broken into, and items inside another open carport were tossed onto Lakeshore Road and smashed. The damage was noted Sunday morning by a weekend cottager and the OPP were contacted. This same cottager also reported some unusual "teenage activity" at a normally-quiet place near the traffic circle and suggested the OPP pay them a visit. Officers went down to speak to them and several stolen items were found. Two teenagers were taken into custody and both face a long list of criminal charges.

Sadly, the owners of the cottages that were broken into have been through this before -- in one case, this was their second B&E in two years and in the other, this was their third B&E in three years.

The Rondeau Cottagers' Association would like to recognize Const. William VanWyk, Const. Ron Bourdeau, and Det. Erica Vanroboys of the Chatham-Kent OPP Detachment for their excellent police work in solving this crime spree so quickly. We also wish to thank the RCA member (whom we will not identify online) for knowing the park well enough to point the OPP towards those responsible. Cottagers have a long history as the stewards of Rondeau Provincial Park year-round and this is just one more proud example.
