I stopped in yesterday morning to say hello to the new owners of the Bayview Market, Ross & Lynda Goldhawk, who live in nearby “Sandytown” (the subdivision just past Bates Sub. as you head towards Morpeth).
Though the timing wasn’t planned, this was the exact moment the sign contractors were raising the new canopy sign along the front of the building.
Ross and Lynda purchased the store from the previous owners, Tom and Lori O’Shea, who most of you must know. The O’Sheas have since moved to eastern Ontario.
The Goldhawks have been working most of the winter on the new store makeover, and the plan to be open Easter weekend, in less than two weeks.
They are the 14th owners of the store. I had documented the first dozen owners in the Rondeau Centenial History book I wrote for he RCA 23 years ago, in 1994, when it was owned by Brian and Susan LeClair. (details of all owners, with pictures and old ads, are on pages 129-132 of this book)
The O’Shea’s took over some time in the mid-1990’s, I believe, and at over 20 years, ran the market for the longest of any of the 14 owners.
Lynda Goldhawk ran the shop “Antiquated Joys” on Talbot St. in Blenheim for a number of years (the shop is still there ), and you can sure see her decorative touches in the interior shot I took of the northwest corner of the store. One item for sale will be Rondeau themed T-shirts with the logo from the front of the 1932 Rondonian, an RCA publication from 85 years back.
A new wooden floor was placed over the cement floor for a “general store” look.
The Goldhawks are strong supporters of the Rondeau cottage community and look forward to serving you this year!
Wishing all of my fellow Leaseholders a great year, and hopefully some positive news in the months to come!
