Due to damage caused by ice this winter, the fishing/swimming pier at the park has been demolished. This was taken on March 1, 2014, from the very end of the dock looking back towards shore; you can see the Rondeau Yacht Club to the left of the photo.

The crew from Curran Demolition in Chatham is taking advantage of the frozen bay and using heavy equipment to rip-out the dock and supports.  The entire area around the Brown Store is now cordoned-off and off-limits so there’s no easy way to watch what’s going on.  Rumour is the very end of the dock was not damaged by the ice and may be left in place for the time being.  The dock was built in 1971 and the pilings were re-sunk in 1991.

The RCA hopes Ontario Parks will replace the dock ASAP as it is a significant part of the “Rondeau experience” for all park visitors.
