Park Management Petition – Update

Many members have asked for an update on the Petition that was at the Bayview Market in August & September.  On October 18th the following petition was sent to the Director of Ontario Parks Bruce Bateman, SW Zone Manager John Salo, Minister of Natural Resources Linda Jeffrey, and Chatham-Kent Essex MPP -elect Rick Nicholls….

WHEREAS SUPERINTENDENT RICK POST HAS LOST THE CONFIDENCE & RESPECT OF RONDEAU’S COTTAGE LEASEHOLDERS  by demonstrating his personal & professional contempt for our community’s heritage & traditions;

WHEREAS SUPERINTENDENT RICK POST HAS DELIBERATELY & IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGED RONDEAU’S DELICATE ENVIRONMENTAL BALANCE  without due diligence or regard to provincial legislation and regulations;

WE THE UNDERSIGNED petition the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to permanently remove Superintendent Rick Post from all responsibilities at Rondeau Provincial Park as soon as possible.

The petition bore the signatures of 323 persons on 16 pages — an astounding response, and, significantly, more signatures than the total number of cottages in the park!  Disputing Mr Post’s claim in the newspaper that “There is no rift between myself and the cottagers, per se.”  And clearly communicating that Mr Post is not “building relationships with the broad community” as required by his job description.  The only response to the petition, from John Salo, was received two weeks later…

Dear Brian,

This is to acknowledge receipt of the petition regarding Rondeau Provincial Park and the Park Superintendent.

As per a letter provided to the Preisdent of the Rondeau Cottagers Association shortly after the Spring Cottagers meeting all personnel decisions are made internally by the MInistry of Natural Resources. These decisions are not made nor are they discussed in a public forum. If there is any change in the management staff at Rondeau the RCA will be advised at the earliest opportunity.

Cheers. John

The original petition remains in my possession and its existence has not been made public.  Yet.
