Rondeau Heritage Cottage Tour 2002
…………...A Huge Success!!!!!!!!!!
The first annual Rondeau Heritage Cottage Tour, sponsored by the
Rondeau Cottagers’ Association held on Saturday, August 10th, 2002,
was a tremendous success with over 300 visitors touring the five
cottages on the tour schedule.
The opening ceremonies got underway at 10am, when Chatham-Kent Town
Crier, George Sims, declared the tour officially open.
Among the many dignitaries joining in on the tour were Chatham-Kent
Councilors Anne Coulter and Larry Robbins. Anne Coulter brought
greetings from Chatham-Kent Mayor Diane Gagner, and Councilors
Coulter also read a poem of her own creation dedicated to the
Heritage Cottage Tour.
Also joining in on the Tour was Rondeau Yacht Club Commodore, Paul
Boire, as well as the Rondeau Cottagers’ Association President,
Neville Knowles.
The five cottages on the tour included “Killarney”, the bayside
cottage of Paul and Marnie Van Steen, as well as the lakeside
cottages of Stew and Dorothy McLaren, Dr. David Colby, Kevin and
Christine McMillan, and John and Betty Walty. A double-decker bus
and covered tour wagons escorted the attendees, dignitaries, and
Park Officials to the cottages, the Rondeau Yacht Club, and Rondeau
Park Visitor Centre.
The favorite stop on the tour appeared to be the old, rustic log
cabin owned by John and Betty Walty, which is located on the forest
side of Lakeshore Road.
Proceeds from this popular Heritage Cottage Tour were distributed to
the Friends of Rondeau to help in the construction of the Marsh
Trail elevated viewing platform, and to the Rondeau Yacht Club to
help in funding the RYC youth programs.
